I saw FlashDigger listed as illegally using LAME, so asked the guy. Here
is his reply.

Dr Alexander,

It is good to come across such a co-operative person!

I have forwarded your reply to the mailing list where I am sure you will
hear from concerned parties in due course.

LAME is nothing to do with me, I was just curious - as a programmer of
open-source software myself - to see how those listed in the "naughty"
section would respond to a polite e-mail.

Dear Mr. Goddard,

I'm really surprised by this information!

That development was made few years ago, and the LAME library was got
_not_ from your (now official) site but from a third-party software
archive, where it was declared (by accompaning documentation) as
freeware. Therefore it was used in this development without notifying
you about this fact.

I'm really sorry for the situation we have now and I'm ready to fix it
ASAP by all possible means, but please drop me a line of what should be
my exact actions to fix the situation? As far as I know your software
product is distributed under GPL. Would it be enough if I will insert
the declaration of its usage with the link to your official web page
into the "Credits"
chapter of the help file? Hope yes, because I see no other places where
to show it.

I'd like to note that LAME library is definitely NOT the essence of the
FlashDigger software. It is used there as one of an extra add-ons, in no
way functioning within the main software. So, I doubt we ever made a
money from its usage. Moreover this particular addon is available for
free in unregistered version of the software.

Once more sorry,

Best regards,
Alexander Bokovikov

Does your product still illegally use LAME to decode MPEG audio? If so,
would it be okay to illegally use your software too?
