Some kinds of loss, e.g. absorption loss, can be computed by
calculating the modes of the lossless structure in MPB and then using
perturbation theory. Other kinds of loss, e.g. scattering from a butt-
coupling junction between two waveguides, require a different
computation method, e.g. they could be done using our Meep time-domain
code.
