I saw several discussion about this. They suggested to use h5utils
1.11, but I still cannot find it. I found the newer version instead,
version 1.12.
But, I still cannot use install it. There are several messages when
I configure it. It cannot find libhdf(HDF4), libmatheval, libpng,
and mkoctfile.
Please tell me what to do . I really need help and suggestion on these
Version 1.12 should work too.
It can install okay without hdf4, libmatheval, or mkoctfile (it will
just omit the h5toh4, h5math, and octave plugins). But you will need
to install libpng. In particular, you will need to install the libpng-
dev package (or some similar name) to compile software using libpng on
your system.
Note, however, that the problem of the out-of-date h5utils package was
finally fixed in Debian (which now has version 1.12), so it should be
much easier for you to use the precompiled Debian package. Just make
sure you are using the Debian "testing" distribution (which has the
latest working stuff) and update your system. Or, if you are using
Ubuntu, you will either have to point it to the Debian packages, or
switch to the Ubuntu "karmic" distribution (I hate these stupid code
names). If you don't know how to do this, ask for help on the
relevant Debian or Ubuntu mailing list (assuming you are using Debian
or Ubuntu).
