What arguements could one make for the use of NCBI BLAST over mpiBLAST?
None. mpiblast will rock your socks off.
But if you don't need the complexity, ncbi blast is simpler to install
and run.

database. The database itself is unaffected.

cluster. This is the advantage of mpiblast.
I am under the impression that mpiblast is simply the parallelized version of BLAST.
