The msys/mingw problem was caused by a bug in MSYS 1.0.10. I tested
rc8 and it still failed on my system. I upgraded to MSYS 1.0.11 and
the was able to successfully build MPIR with --enable-fat.

My apologies for not upgraded MSYS before initially reporting this bug.
