I think this article just highlights that there is some kind of
competition between Mercurial and Git.

Mercurial is good for python projects, has better Windows support at
present and is considerably faster in some benchmark.

Git is more popular, is better for C and more sophisticated.

I'm not panicked about making a choice. The fact that google has, may
indeed be relevant as to who wins the competition though.
