Jason Moxham and Jason Martin have noticed that
I am working on installing the Intel compiler suite on cleo.

While icc (the C compiler) works (compiles a simple "hello
world" program), icpc (the C++ compiler) does not. I have
been in touch with Intel about the problem, and they promise
a fix (although I have been waiting for a while now).

The C++ compiler (and Fortran compiler) are needed by Sage.
That is the reason that I have not "officially" announced the Intel
compiler suite on cleo. (Installing the Intel compiler suite was
requested by the Sage folks.)

On Skynet/cleo if you do

  source /usr/local/intel-11.0.081/ia64-Linux-rhel/bin/iccvars.sh ia64

you should pick up the necessary environment variables for icc.

Once I get the Intel compiler suite working on cleo, I plan to install
it on Skynet/iras.
