He should develop a mpn code which actually should not be a simple
translation from mpz level to mpn level, but add also new ideas for
optimization. Unfortunately I'm not skilled enough to do very
complicated things at mpn level....

The paper should appear in some months, by IEEE. I'll keep you all
informed when it will be availble.

The considerable gain I obtained with respect to GMP is because it
currently implements up to Toom-4 (apart from FFT, for very long
numbers). As you have Toom-7, it's probable that Toom-8 gain, if any,
could be not so much as to be worth.
