After persisting for some hours, I managed to manually fix all the
errors in the Makefiles which autotools spews out, and thus I have
cobbled together a new rc4 for testing. I did check it does actually
build and pass make check on at least one machine!

Note that tickets #270, #271 and #272 have not been resolved yet so a
final release cannot be made until they are. However it would be
useful to have some feedback on testing at this early stage. If all
looks well and if the other tickets can get sorted on the weekend say,
then we might be in some sort of shape to finally release next week
some time.

I will have to revise the list we made last time we were going to
release, to see if we have done everything. I still had some concerns
about mpn_invert.c, but they are technical I think, not code related
(I hope). Certainly we don't currently use anything that is broken or
potentially broken in that file. But I want to make sure the rest is
fine too. I will also need to remove my fft code from the dist, which
doesn't need to be there, or at least move it into the mpn directory
(we have other files called new_blah in there which are not used and
this seems to cause no problems).

Bill.
