Tony was elected in 1979 and served until 1993,
so there was no one in between him and Thurber.
Tony defeated incumbent DFL Alderman (that's
what they called them then) Zollie Green in 1979.
Zollie had been in for several two-year terms. He
was known for being quite a character (maybe a
little like Jesse is today) and was known for being
unable to leave the city limits of Minneapolis
(makes it kind of hard to lobby the Legislature).
Zollie passed away not so long ago.
