Thanks for clearing that up Don. Flyers promoting the meeting (and I
received material from both sides of this), mentioned that the League of
Women Voters would be supervising the election. Also, some of the folks
who went to the podium and spoke mentioned that the facilitator was
connected to the League--so I guess because of this, I assumed that the
Facilitor was a League person hired by CNIA--so I'm sorry for passing on
inaccurate information. I have no idea who this person was. He just
wasn't prepared for this meeting and all the ugly emotions.
One thing I have noticed is that since the new board has been in, I haven't
received notices about CNIA Business Development meetings.
Anyway, this meeting was a great exhibit A of why Identity Politics is a
poor way to go. It seems to be a blood sport in Central. Our block club
meetings have never been like that. There have been contentious
issues--the Alley turn, supported by Brian Heron and Park Avenue Methodist
Church for example. But folks have to live in the same neighborhood, so
things have never quite gotten as bad as these CNIA general membership
meetings.
Anyway, I was trying to be a good involved citizen by going to this
meeting. When I went home from the meeting, I just wondered what the point
of it all was. I still don't understand it.
