Catherine, thanks for posting your position on this issue. Hopefully other School Board members on this list will do the same. It will be interesting to see what the School Board does on this. The Indianhead Council volunteer wrote the linked oped to the Pioneer Press June 30: http://www.indianhead.org/news/op-ed.pdf Exerpts: <<One of the things that's not likely to change in the near future is the relative autonomy that chartered organizations--the community-based groups that collaborate with us to sponsor Scouting units--and parents have in selecting the leaders of those units. The clearly defined selection criteria include, for example, an interest in youth development, an interest in and appreciation of the outdoors, a willingness to invest time in training and unit leadership, experience in leading group activities, and the ability to be a positive role model for young people. These criteria, however, make no reference to sexual orientation; indeed, Scouting makes no effort to discover any person's sexual preference. In Scouting, it's your behavior, your motives and the quality of your character that count--and that will not change.>> Now this article is on the Indianhead Council's website, and seems a bit different than what the Boy Scouts of America nationally are promoting. This is one volunteer, but his statement is posted on the official Indianhead Council website--and this website is linked from the official BSA website. The Viking Council (that serves Minneapolis) does not have a website. I'm curious what stands they take on this issue.
