The City Council's Public Safety and Regulatory
Services Committee (the
committee that held the public hearing about
police/city conduct at the
ISAG protests, at which so many folks testified) will
hear a proposal
by
Council member Jim Niland on a new City policy
regarding police conduct
at
political demonstrations. Niland's proposal is based
on the testimony
offered at the earlier public hearings and other
discussions he had
with
folks involved in the ISAG (and other) protests.

Jim feels it would be important to have a noticeable
public presence at
the hearing, even though it will not be open for
public testimony (two
or
three people will be allowed to speak), to show
Council members that
the
issue has not gone away and that there continues to be
a demand for a
City
policy that respects the right to protest.

If you can, please come to the hearing. It will be
Wednesday, October
4,
in room 319 of City Hall. Niland's proposal will be
discussed at 4:00
pm.
