Both Jon Kelland and Annie Young make very important points vis a vis the appointment of McKinley Boston to a new position in City Hall. I'm especially grateful to Annie for pointing out the redundancy of this appointment. Why doesn't it surprise me? Jon's point about being uncomfortable with Boston's salary being paid by outside interests is astute. In a recent Ways and Means meeting, the committee went round and round about a budget for the Office of Cultural Affairs that would include monies that would enable the director to attend events. Barret Lane was concerned that the city pay for these events rather than receive free admission. And yet we allow outside corporate interests to pay Boston's salary? Frankly, I disagreed with CM Lane when it came to the city buying tickets to events. I'm all in favor of comps! The idea that city taxpayers might have to buy a ticket for the director to a Theatre Live opening while the council and the mayor are already in Fred Krohn's pocket makes me want to vomit. And while we're on the subject of salaries did anyone notice in last Saturday's Strib the fee being paid to our interim finance director for four month's work. If I recall it was $53,495. That works out to close to $160,000 per year. If I were John Moir I would feel insulted. I don't think he got anywhere near that. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
