attended the northeast forum last night hosted by the
northeast business association. it was a great
opportunity to talk to my neighbors, and two points
were made in almost every conversation.

1. the artists are here. the forum had workshops
hosted by local artists, and many businesses
represented had an arts/crafts emphasis. the area is
getting a reputation as an art-friendly community

2. housing prices are insane. more than one person
told me about houses selling for twice what they were
worth just a few years ago.

unfortunately, i think these two statements are in
conflict. a tight housing market is bad for artists,
but the sense of community created by creative types
is part of the reason other people want to live there.

by the way thanks to the mayor for showing up at the
event. she has alway been very visible and
supportive.
