Mr. Schapiro said:

Am I the only person who finds the above statement saddening? Mr.
Schapiro, we have some fundamental differences of opinion (to paraphrase
the next President,) about what is good for the children of Minneapolis.
That doesn't make either one of us "bad." Do you always resort to
insulting those who disagree with you?
It's depressing to see how often we categorize those with different views
as mean, bad, or stupid. When I was attending public elementary school
(in the same class as Mr. Shapiro's kid,) this was how we school-children
behaved. As I grew up, it became apparent to me that reasonable people
can disagree on a variety of subjects. I learned that shunning people
whose views don't mirror mine is truly detrimental, in addition to being
a waste of time.
I believe that everyone on this list cares about the Minneapolis schools,
and how they're serving our children. We have some different ideas about
how to improve things, but that is the great thing about this list. We
can bounce ideas and opinions off of similarly concerned residents. If
we are pushing some specific of agenda, we can make the case
(persuasively, rather that insultingly) for that agenda here.
Let's continue this debate in a respectful fashion - our children's
education is worthy of the effort.
