It's kind of fun reading election predictions that were made before the
election 4 days after the election. (I've been sick and only now
catching up on e-mail). Did Steve Minn really think Scott Dibble would
get 48 percent?!? I may have to re-adjust my high opinion of Minn's
political astuteness.
What was interesting is that almost all DFLer's got in the upper 60 to
70 percent range. All these races were blowouts. This was City-wide
regardless of incumbency or open seat. Given the sorry state of the
Republican party in the City I was surprised by the disappointing
Independence and third party totals. Virtually no one reached 10
percent. Ouch. Nader himself barely cracked 10 percent in the City.
Clearly we are a long way to having a viable 3rd party in this state or
City.
These results show how important the endorsement conventions are. At
least for State House and Senate the person, who is endorsed by the DFL
party will be the winner of the general election. Is it fair that this
is decided by a few hundred people? I was lucky, I was one of a couple
hundred who got to vote for Scott Dibble when it counted in March.
In list member news, David Greenslit, the list's resident Libertarian
came in third in his race for Mayor of Mound (my old hometown). He
garnered a respectful 22 percent of the vote in a 3-person race.
