Saturday night I went to the memorial service for a great neighborhood
activist, shameless agitator, and all around good guy. Al Hage, an active
Seward neighborhood organizer died on Thursday at 68. Al was a Twin Cities
Freenet person, a very active member of the Seward neighborhood and an
activist in the Green and DFL parties. Al was also a medical illustrator
and created the mural in the Medtronics headquarters ("Rising Man"). He
wrote poems, plays and music. He was an active, vocal friend of the
Mississippi. He was also an active member of the Honeywell Project.
The memorial service at St. Frances Cabrini Church was packed to standing
room only. In spite of his recent active support of the Green Party,
Congressman Martin Sabo was even there and was helping carry chairs down to
the church basement for the continuation of the remembering.
