Minneapolis Council President Jackie Cherryhomes Seeking Reelection
St. Paul, MN-The Minnesota DFL Party has been notified by Minneapolis City
Council President Jackie Cherryhomes that she is seeking reelection in 2001.
Cherryhomes-who's gained DFL endorsement in her past election bids-has
worked to serve citizens in her Fifth Ward as well as those residing
citywide. "The strong partnerships we've built between community and
government have helped improve the quality of life our city's residents
enjoy in their neighborhoods," Cherryhomes says. "Together, we've worked to
decrease crime and unemployment," she says.
Cherryhomes touts her record on other issues such as: Improving livable
wages and heightening access to more affordable housing. Cherryhomes says if
she's reelected, she'll work the next four years to revitalize West Broadway
in Minneapolis with business and housing development. Cherryhomes also says
she'll work to, "diminish the health disparities between the majority
population and populations of color."
Cherryhomes says her commitment is to the working families of the city.
She-along with Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton-helped negotiate and
end to a hotel and restaurant workers' strike. Cherryhomes says, "I worked
so that those among us who are paid the least have a fair contract. My on
going commitment to working people will be firm and strong."
Cherryhomes will again seek DFL endorsement in her 2001 reelection bid.
