Hi Folks: Mathea, I believe you worked on Neva Walker's campaign. Do you know if she has committed to be a strong voice on Ventura's plan to provide Domestic Partner benefits for state employees? I know she got the Stonewall endorsement, but as one of her constituents, I would like to know what she will do on this issue. Also, congratulations on a successfully run campaign. Neva did win big time. Ofcourse, her opponent was Renee LaVoi's treasurer. I'd like to encourage others on this list to write your representatives and senators. I've said before on the MN Politics Discuss list, that I've thought it was extremely stupid for the Republicans in the house to focus on this issue. It divides the Republican party. It also reinforces the image the DFLers love to use of the Republican party as out of touch and intolerant. Though DFLers love to paint all Republicans as anti-gay bigots, the truth is far different. Yes, there are idiots in the party--as there are in the DFL. I still haven't forgotten about the DFL house (including Phyllus Kahn) voting for the anti-gay, anti-access-to-safe-legal-abortion Irv Anderson as speaker. And St Paul DFL mayor candidate Randy Kelly towed the Darrell "Lumpy" McKigney, Tom "Phone Sex" Prichard line, and voted in the Senate Crime Prevention committee in 1999 to keep the idiotic Minnesota sodomy law firmly in place. I've never understood why anyone with a modicum of common sense would support such an idiotic law--which prohibits oral and anal sex between all couples--gay and straight, married or single. Anyway, back to the point of this alert, whether you are a DFLer who supports the Gay community, or a Republican or Independent who supports the Gay community, please write your legislature about this. The Quistlings will want to make this a big issue, and they are good at grass roots organizing. Let's counter act that. Thanks alot, Eva Eva Young Mpls., MN __________________________________________________________________ > >ACTION ALERT from the >Human Rights Campaign >919 18th Street NW >Washington, DC 20006 >email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >WWW: http://www.hrc.org >___________________________________________________________________ > >DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP BENEFITS UNDER ATTACK IN MN > >HRC is forwarding this action alert from OutFront Minnesota to support >their work at the statewide level.
