Buck's work on the listed issues will be watched very carefully. Especially
if he's looking to run for Secretary of State in 2002, as appears to be the
case.

> Buck Humphrey takes job with Sayles Belton's office
>
> Rochelle Olson Star Tribune Thursday, January 18, 2001
>
>
> Hubert (Buck) Humphrey IV, scion of the state's dominant political
> family, will begin work next month as a policy aide to Minneapolis
> Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton.
>
> Beginning Feb. 7, the 31-year-old Humphrey will take the lead on
> several issues for the mayor: professional sports, public works,
> labor and regulatory services. He will share transportation duties
> with another aide.
>
> Humphrey said the opportunity to work in his hometown and for the
> mayor on these topics appealed to him. "It's a challenge, and it will
> be issues that I haven't worked on directly," he said.
>
> In taking the City Hall job, he will go to work in the building where
> his grandfather Hubert Humphrey began his political career as the
> mayor more than a half-century before him.
>
> Humphrey went on to become a U.S. senator and vice president. A
> statue of him stands outside City Hall. "It's humbling, obviously, to
> be walking past it every day," Buck Humphrey said. "I think he would
> be proud that a Humphrey is working for the city."
>
> Humphrey's father, Hubert Humphrey III, is the former state attorney
> general.
>
> Sayles Belton's chief of staff, Colleen Moriarty, said Humphrey comes
> to the office with an understanding of the neighborhoods, a
> commitment to the city, expertise on airport and transportation
> issues and a proven ability to work with the mayor.
>
> "He's a rising star, so that's great for everybody," she said, noting
> that he will become the first aide with a focus on stadium issues.
>
> Humphrey doesn't rule out a possible political run himself some day,
> saying only, "If someday the people of Minnesota would be interested
> in having another Humphrey represent them, I think that would be
> great."
