I do not want to minimize the threat to schools across the state, but a
little geezer perspective might make sense.
This is a biennial political kabuki. Governors always (although not
always so dramatically) lowball school funding. Parents organize, a huge
rally is held on the capitol steps in late March or April, funding gets
to acceptable levels and the legislature says that it is not the
politicans but The People who up the tax burden.
Ann Berget, who is on this list, got her first district wide leadership
experience in one such parent response. She could probably add
something here.
Parents and other school supporters still need to organize and make
their case...but it may be worthwhile to think a little bit about
whether there might be more effective and dignified alternatives to this
opera. (Or...maybe this is a great reminder of how much we really do
value our public schools.)
