There is no need to call a lawyer, Steve. The campaign finance reports are available today for public review at the Government Center. It appears the County was a little short-staffed in the institutional memory department yesterday. When a Star Tribune reporter requested the reports, the manager of the County's Elections office was testifying at the Legislature and the Department Director was out of town. Apparently the workers that received the request were unfamiliar with how the County has traditionally made the information available immediately. Yesterday's momentary glitch aside, the County's Elections office does good work. I think even Steve would acknowledge that the County has a strong record on making data accessible to the public. He's right. You should have been able to find out what candidates had raised and spent. But you can't so far, because of an unprecedented decision by the people at Hennepin County who handle campaign finance reports that the public--even reporters--can't view them for about 10 days while they are processed. This seems like something that is correctable without a lawsuit if enough people sound off. _______________________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - Minnesota E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
