So if the officers in Barbara Schneider's death are beyond indictment, who is responsible? The system? Who/what is the system? Will Minneapolis once again employ a band-aid approach, just a tweaking of the system, let's say send 25 cops to Memphis for training? This is much more than a question of how police treat "mentally impaired" people. This is about core philosophy and how we expect our police to act and how we measure success. SSB loves to tout the fact that crime levels are the lowest they have been since 1966. At what cost? And how do we explain the death of Abuka Sanders? One hundred years ago we would have worn white sheets and carried rope and torches. These episodes in our history stink to high heaven. The fish rots from the head down!
