The Minneapolis/5th District Green Party is in the process of screening
candidates for city offices: Mayor, City Council, and Park and Library boards.
Candidates interested in seeking the Green Party endorsement should contact Holle
Brian, Steering Committee Chair, at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or call (612) 822-6593 for a
screening packet and information.
We will be considering candidates for endorsement at our Mpls/5District Green
Party membership meetings on the following dates:
Saturday, March 3 -- 12 Noon-4:00pm University Lutheran Church of Hope, 601 13th
Avenue Southeast, Minneapolis
Saturday, April 7 -- Time and location to be determined
Saturday, June 2 -- Time and location to be determined
Screening interviews will be held at Hosmer Library, 347 East 36th Street, on:
Saturday, February 24 from 4-6 p.m.
Saturday, March 31 from 1-5 p.m.
Saturday, May 26 from 1-5 p.m.
Participation in the candidate screening process is recommended but not required.
We do require that candidates seeking endorsement notify us in advance of the
meeting they will be attending, so that we can publicize this to our members.
Voting in Mpls/5District Green Party meetings is restricted to members, although
the meetings are open to all interested participants. Our bylaws define
membership as follows:
"Membership shall be open to anyone who lives in the 5th District and shares
the purposes, goals and values of the Green Party. To become a member an
individual must have attended at least one previous meeting of the Mpls./5th
District Green Party and complete a designated membership form.
An individual who lives in the 5th District, is a member of the Green Party
of Minnesota, and who is on record as having attended at least one meeting of
the Green Party of Minnesota, or who is vouched for by a member in good
standing of the Minneapolis/5th District Green Party, may also be considered
a member of the Minneapolis/5th District Green Party after completing a
designated membership form. Nonmembers may participate in group activities.
Only members, however, may vote when formal decisions are made."
The Minneapolis/5th District Green Party is a local affiliate of the Green Party
of Minnesota and is dedicated to the 10 Key Values of Social and Economic
Justice, Ecological Wisdom, Grassroots Democracy, Nonviolence, Feminism,
Decentralization, Personal and Global Responsibility, Community-Based Economics,
Future Focus and Respect for Diversity.
