Short summary of 6th Ward Forum held by Whittier Neighbors and Stevens
Square Neighborhood Organization.
Over 100 people (mostly campaign workers and candidate supporters) packed
a small room at Whittier School on Thursday evening, March 1st. A keynote
to mention. The forum was conducted very professionally and the timining
impecable. It started on time, it ended exactly on time and the candidates
really were concise and followed the timekeepers signs.
The particiapnts were (from left to right): Shada Buyoube-Hammond, Barb
Lickness, Dean Kallenbach, Jonathan Palmer, Jim Graham, Tamir Nolley and
Dean Zimmermann.
I have 16 pages of notes and am not going to fill in the answers but I
thought list members might like to know the list of questions and then one
can seek out the answers to the question of most interest to them.
The questions (in brevity) addressed:
1. City relationship to vendors and contract employees
Many of the candidates also talked about their positions on privatization
of city services in this section
2. What political party do you represent, endorsements?
3. Bicycles and pedesterians are considered 2nd class citizens in this
city - how would you change that?
4. Discuss you work in the neighborhood. Do you think you can be fair when
it comes to the whole ward?
5. Your position regarding campaign finance, PAC's , and where you'll get
your campaign monies.
6. What actions could the City Council do now to address CODEFORE
violations and Police Brutality issues?
7. Your thoughts on TIF
8. How do you differ from the other candidates.
In my IMHO this was the best question to help see the candidate's as they
are.
I don't know if this is helpful and know you'd all love the answers but I'm
not typing up sixteen pages of notes into an e-mail. I'm sure you'll hear
more from all these candidate's the next few months. Many of them are
going all the way - so they say a this point.
Enjoy!
