I really beg to differ with Mr. Kroll on the issue of allowing "landed"
immigrants to vote in local elections.
Voting is a right and privilege granted ONLY to citizens. An example: If
you had a large enough of a group of immigrants to affect a course for the
local government that was the opposite to the wants and desires of the local
citizens. Then after that government has taken office and the immigrants
leave town, then who is left holding the bag? The citizens who didn't want
such a government. It's just like having a guest come to your house and
demand that an addition is put onto your house, doesn't pay for it, and a
week later leaves. You have paid for something you didn't really want or
need.
There are rights and expectations that come with citizenship in this
country, and both go hand in hand.
Please make no mistake about my view on immigrants. I welcome them with
open arms. This is the only country where anyone can come and truly live
out there dreams, and as current citizens we should welcome and encourage
them.
