In response to Steve Cramer's counterpoint in the Sat.
Strib:

No mention of Ryan Development: How would the public
feel about the project if Steve mentioned it was a
speculative venture. It's not as though Padilla Spear
is building their own building. Would that they were.
At least they understand public relaions and might
think it advisable to be as unobtrusive as possible.

This talk of modern architecture and a back-handed
swipe at the mention of pseudo-historic buildings. Gee
Steve, thanks to guys like you that's about all we
have left to do in this god-forsaken town. When I
drove cab during the NCAA quarterfinals in '93 I had
one fare actually say to me "God when was this town
built?" He wasn't referring to the plethora of older
structures!

The swipe part of that comment is to brand people with
a certain cultural sensitivity somehow "snobs" or
"elitist". Please! Just because I would prefer a nice
warm brick building that would fit with the
surrounding buildings as opposed to a glass and metal
montrosity hardly should qualify me or anyone else as
elitist or an art snob.

Enough of this from City Hall.

And finally I am a little tired of minions writing to
the list on behalf of their bosses. You got something
to say Steve, step up to the plate and sound off on
this list.

You can write all you want but it will never disguise
what an ugly building this is, how ridiculous the
amount of surface parking is involved, what little
insight was shown by everyone save, once again, Lisa
Goodman, etc. Because it is not the most perfect spot
currently given what is arond it is no reason to make
it worse.

The logical correlative of that would be for each one
of us, seeing a piece of paper on the ground , were to
throw another pice on the ground rather than stoop to
pick up the first.
