As someone who recently, albeit briefly, found himself the subject of a thread (attack is perhaps too strong a word), I disagree. Yes, candidates may attract more flak than us "ordinary" folk -- but I'm sure that most candidates have their adherents on the list, who could step up to defend if necessary.
