And as someone who uses this part of the freeway, this is a problem--but I
avoid using 35 W or generally try to exit on hiawatha/11th av rather than
coming down to the 35/36th street exit just because of this. I generally
prefer driving city streets to the freeway for alot of my driving. I think
it makes alot of sense to have ramps going both ways to get onto Lake Street.
Wizard is exactly right about the "traffic calming" on 35 and 36. One way
streets do increase speed. Not to mention the idiots who drive the wrong
way on these one way streets. And this is a very confusing area for folks
who aren't familiar with it. The streets are one way for around 10 blocks.
35 calms down quite quickly to the west of Nicollet--but for the 8 or 9
blocks in Central it's pretty bad.

Yeah, this is what I don't get..... As someone said on this list, there
are a number of folks who use the 35/36 street exit, who double back to go
to Lake St, so it makes more sense to have exits going both ways there.
As far as the Flyover ramp, I'm not sure of the reasoning behind that one.
Also, at the meeting on this, there was alot of suburb bashing. But what
doesn't make sense with that is that as Terrell said, many of the folks
using these exits are going to be folks who live in the area or are
visiting the area.
