I enjoyed a great walk up to North Commons Park
Saturday morning to start the day. All sorts of people
were there. Good to see Walt Dziedzic, Mark Stenglein
among the regular city types. Even Peter Mclaughlin
who has a tiny piece of the fifth ward showed up.

Annie failed to mention the woman running against
Jackie C. in her first shot at electoral politics.
Nathalie Johnson-Lee gave a credible speech and took a
small percentage of votes. This was definitely the CC
President's crowd.

Still, in a Ward that has seen heated activity and
large numbers in past years, even in years where an
incumbent ran unopposed, the turnout was underwhelming
from my perspective.

Nathalie Johnson-Lee is going to put up a spirited
campaign. I've seen her at work recently in meetings
of the Near Northside Development Implementation
Committee, which still does not appear to be
implementing much more than a paper shuffle and
funhouse game enacted by MCDA et al, and she is a
dogged questioner.

Watch for the 5th ward race to heat up between now and
September. The horses have just left the gate and
we've got a long way to go.
