We wanted to update you on the South High School situation. This morning a
written bomb threat was found in the school. The school assembled their crisis
team and decided to evacuate the building. At around 11 a.m., students and staff
were safely evacuated to the YWCA on Lake Street. Shortly after 1 p.m. students
were released for the day. Students could either walk home, drive, or bus
transportation was provided. The Minneapolis Police Department worked with the
district to thoroughly search the building for any suspicious items. Their search
is now complete with no suspicious items being found. Since the threat was for
today, To further ensure safety, it was decided to cancel activities at South
High for the remainder of the day.

Unfortunately, many schools across the nation have received similar threats
following the recent extensive media coverage of the school violence. We continue
to make the security of students and staff our top priority, and as a community,
it is important that we send the message that we support each other and will be
on the alert to share information that threatens any of our students

Today, you can call the Communications Department - 612-668-0230 - for more
information. Tomorrow, when South High School reopens, the school will be ready
to discuss any concerns. Feel free to call 612-668-4300 and your call will be
directed to an appropriate school staff member. If you would like to provide
anonymous information, the Save a Friend Hotline number is 1-877-537-4363.
