With the major historical facet of the Guthrie(as far
as theatre history goes) is having the first
contemporary thrust stage, perhaps it would be good to
look for an appropriate reuse of the theatrical
complex. A thrust stage seems best suited to plays
originally written for a thrust stage. I wonder if
there would be an interest in establishing a Minnesota
Reperetory Theater.

The Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, OR and festival
in Stratford, ON both draw huge crowds. The Royal
Shakespeare Reperetory Theater is staging Hamlet at
the Guthrie later next month. Is there enough demand
between the local and tourist crowd to have a local
stage committed to staging Shakespeare and his
contemporaries year round in MPS? This might be an
interesting possibility for the Guthrie.
