In light of the current "dirty city" thread, I though list members would be
interested in the following media alert that was issued by the Office of
Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton this morning announcing a news conference to be
held next Monday morning. The purpose of the news conference is to launch
an intensified city cleanup effort beginning downtown in preparation for the
upcoming NCAA Final Four. The snow melt downtown is sufficient for street
cleaning, as well as other cleanup activities. At the news conference, the
mayor will also discuss plans for neighborhood cleanup, which will begin in
earnest once there is sufficient snow melt. The mayor will be calling on
businesses and citizens to help out. The examples of people getting
involved in garbage and litter pickup discussed in the "dirty city" thread
are great examples of how citizen involvement makes a difference.
