I vacationed for about 10 days and when I came back I had 343 new messages!
I too hope the mayor is busy doing things other than reading this list. As a
semi-workhorse myself, I felt compelled to read each post (ok, ok, I confess
to deleting all those with "organic" in the subject line) and it took hours.
After two days all memories of sun and sea faded--replaced byaffordable
housing issues.
I thought about the "what makes a city wonderful" thread while I was away in
southern Spain (no museums, no art galleries--just retired Brits and warmth).
The guide books describe this area--The Costa del Sol--as ugly,
overdeveloped, without redeeming interest, and even ruined, with "dreary
grey-brown beaches." To my Minnesota eyes, it seemed pretty wonderful with
white white houses, cloudless skies, lush plants and big old rubber
trees--not to mention the mythic Mediterranean. All I saw was the
environment. It made me wonder if our forefathers and mothers planned the
city with the idea "well it's covered with snow for half the year anyway" so
promenades and arbored walkways seemed a bit frivolous.
