Subject: [Mpls] GOVERNOR NAMES YANISCH NEW DTED COMMISSIONER

As an Independence Party activist who is unhappy with the stewardship of
our present Mayor, I must say the DTED appointment today is very
disappointing.

I remember Rudy Perpich appointed Mark Dayton to this potentially
steppingstone position. I would be nice to think that maybe James
Gibson or Jack Uldrich might have been considered for this job.

Oh well, the Governor hasn't shown himself really interested or
knowledgeable about (third) party building in the past, so what is new?

Press Release
   Immediate Release
   March 26, 2001
GOVERNOR NAMES YANISCH NEW DTED COMMISSIONER

(St. Paul) Governor Jesse Ventura today named Rebecca Yanisch as the
new
commissioner of the Department of Trade and Economic Development.
Yanisch replaces Jerry Carlson, who resigned earlier this year.

"Rebecca Yanisch is perfect for this job," Governor Ventura said.
"She is an
outstanding example of what happens when you work hard. And that
hard
work has taken her from her rural roots to every part of this state.
She
knows rural Minnesota just as well as she knows the Twin Cities."

Yanisch, 48, is Senior Vice President at GVA Marquette Advisors, a
real
estate consulting firm. Immediately prior to that she was a
candidate for
   U.S. Senate.

For four years, Yanisch was Executive Director of the Minneapolis
Community Development Agency. Under her direction, the agency created
or retained four thousand affordable housing units, cleaned up
numerous
polluted industrial sites and helped revitalize the city's
neighborhoods,
generating more than $1 billion in new development.

"I think if you look at her record with the MCDA alone, you can see
what
she brings to DTED," Governor Ventura said. "She's always been able
to
bring together diverse constituencies, and help them achieve a common
goal. She sees where Minnesota's growth is untapped, and where we
can
   play off its strengths."

Yanisch is on the board of the Jeremiah Program, which assists single
mothers with education, job training, housing and childcare, and the
board
of Artspace Projects, which creates affordable live and work space
for
artists. She and her husband Stephen have one daughter and four
   grandchildren.
