Having spent several hours talking with residents yesterday, I have to voice
an opinion about the proposed zoning changes which would allow for a motel
on the 3000 block of 2nd/3rd Ave.
I, too, would vote NO.
I live on a block where 35 housing units have been/are being removed for
flood mitigation in Minneapolis. None of the buildings were moved, though
we, as a neighborhood, argued for such a compromise. We need to build
housing for our own neighbors first.
I'm not convinced that increased traffic, increased transient folk,
increased lighting, increased business hours (hotels are 24/7) would be
beneficial to our neighborhood.
It has been counter-proposed to build housing, small commercial including
day-care and/or a grocery co-op at that location. I urge you all to
consider the alternatives which would empower our neighborhood with the
business and services which will benefit those of us who live her-- not just
those which might bring the highest profits to their developers/owners.
