<< You all have me so confused. Today I received a notice from
the "5th District Green Party" announcing a membership
meeting on Saturday, 4/7 at MLK Community Center in MLK
Park. On it it is endorsing for the Minneapolis Library
Board and the two endorsements they are considering are
Laurie Savran and Diane Hofstede. Both women are DFLers. I
thought, in terms of my own campaign, that it was a corky
no-no to do that. Am I missing something? >>

Both Library Board candidates had asked to screen for Green Party
endorsement, and at the time the mailing went to press, we assumed they were
still planning to do so. But that was before the Ward 6 convention, which
seems to have been a turning point of some kind on the cross-endorsement
question. Since then, they have decided to go with just the DFL.

It has been confusing for all of us - candidates and party administrators
alike - because neither the DFL nor the Green Party constitutions have had
clear policies regarding cross endorsements in these "non partisan" races.
Lacking these policies, the Green Party has made a good faith effort to be
open to all candidates who want to work with us. However, I think precedents
are being set this year that will help define the boundaries between the
Green Party and the DFL, and hopefully in the future there will be less
ambiguity about peoples' party affliations.
