While I find Scott Persons' spin of the Ward 10 DFL
convention fascinating, I must point out some
important aspects concerning this race that I believe
he missed. Wishing that Scott had disclosed his close
connection to Niziolek, I will begin by clarifying
that I am Doug Kress' campaign manager and I am also
excited by my candidate's electrifying win on
Saturday.

Doug Kress visibly took the Ward 10 convention by
storm and surprised many with the strength of his
campaign. With a throng of red t-shirts (union made &
printed!), the Kress campaign volunteers outnumbered
the other campaign teams combined. Doug Kress led
every single one of the six ballots cast. Doug's
ability to connect with the delegates was tangibly
portrayed by the steady increase in votes he received
over the course of balloting.

But most amazing to me, is how quickly Doug Kress
assembled such a massive effort in just over two
months since he has been a candidate. Dan Niziolek, by
comparison, has been talking to active DFLers and
community leaders about a City Council candidacy for
well over a year - before the current ward delegates
were even chosen. Ironically, Dan is the only
candidate who actually knew he was running early
enough to get his supporters elected as delegates at
last year's caucuses.

As an active DFLer myself, I find Scott Person's
boasting that a blocked endorsement is a "big victory"
further proof of Dan's lack of appreciation for the
DFL party. If their campaign really respected the
party process, they wouldn't have spent all afternoon
introducing motions for an adjournment and further
drawing out the day.

I'm glad that Scott Persons is proud of Dan and their
campaign (although I'm not sure why he brags about not
having any organizational support). I think that Dan
has done a lot of good for his neighborhood and the
organizations he has been involved with.

For me, the Ward 10 DFL convention was further proof
that underdog candidate Doug Kress' grassroots
community-based campaign is quickly gaining tremendous
momentum and enthusiasm. Doug's ability to quickly
pull a team of people together, ignite a passionate
following, and win every ballot is evidence of his
capacity to be a strong candidate and the kind of
"can-do" City Council Member Ward 10 residents are
looking for. His work as an active Kingfield neighbor,
his experience with large public-private endeavors,
and his ability to bring diverse people together to
solve complex problems makes Doug Kress exactly the
kind of new voice we need in City Hall.
