James H. Lindau was a mayor of Bloomington for 11 years, from January 1977
to December 1987. He was instrumental in getting the Mall of America
developed. On June 7, 1999 he was honored for his MoA work when they renamed
a portion of 81st Street near the MoA to Lindau Lane.
I drive by the Lindau Ln exit almost everyday (I exit at Killebrew) and it
took me a few days to realize they had renamed the street. I have often
wondered about how, or if, cities go about notifying other governmental
entities of street name changes. But then, it really is up to the map making
companies to keep abreast of all this. I hardly see any reason for the City
of Minneapolis to be concerned if Bloomington changes a name of one of its
streets. At least, I am not aware of the City of Minneapolis providing maps
of other cities.
