In a post earlier today, Eva Young complained that Developer
Basim Sabri had brought his employees in to vote at CNIA
Bus. Dev. Committee to change the zoning on Sabri's Second
Av. properties.

The by-laws of CNIA state that anyone can vote at a
committee meeting who "lives, works, or owns property" in
the neighborhood. Sabri's employees work in Central and
301, 315, and 347 East Lake Street. They have the right to
vote in our committee meetings.
Therefore, the complaint is that Sabri out-organized other
groups. Yep, that's true. Further, some of those folks
don't work for Sabri. They own little businesses in
buildings Sabri owns.
Young also complained that these folks listened to the
presentation, then voted and left. So what was her point?
She complained there were no Somali or Spanish
interpreters. Yes there were. They interpreted for each
other. Not every Somali or Latino person who comes here is
monolingual. Most of the Somalis speak two or three
languages.
