On behalf of the City Of Minneapolis Planning Department, I would like to
thank Kristin Harley for bringing to our attention her recent experience
while conducting research in the Planning Department at the City of
Minneapolis. I would like to extend my regrets for any misunderstanding
that may have occurred during her visit and explain the City data access
policy.

It has always been the policy of the City of Minneapolis and the Planning
Department to provide access to public information. However, in order to
insure the integrity of the records, there are procedures to obtain this
information.

When public information is needed from the Planning Department, the
requestor calls the appropriate staff person or the receptionist in the
Planning Department and schedules a time to come in to review the file(s).
Staff will pull the file for the requestor, allow time to mark the pages
that the requestor would like copied, and provide the copies within a
reasonable amount of time, depending upon the quantity requested and the
workload of the department staff. There is also a City of Minneapolis
policy that outlines the charge for these copies, generally a per page
charge to recover costs.

If you have questions about the Planning Department policy, please call
