Hello All--Just to respond to the inquires about the UN Flag over the
Hennepin County Government Center. This was in response to resolutions that
were passed in 1986.
Than County Commissioner John Derus sponsored two resolutions, one first to
have the matter of flags at the Government Center looked into, and secondly
to, as the resolution states, "fly the Hennepin County flag on the middle
flag pole, below the Minnesota flag, and to permanently fly the United
Nations flag on the third flag pole, to the left of the United States and
Minnesota Flags."
The resolution sponsored by Derus passed with four yeas and two nays in July
of 1986. The thought was that with flying the United Nations Flag over
Hennepin County we could represent several foreign nations with a single
flag.
