Park Commissioner Zimmermann and I went over to the Academy Thursday
noon-time and sat in the parking lot counting trees, looking again at the
site, checking out the trees and the nice job of trimming the Danebo
Residence did on their portion of trees. You can clearly see the stakes
and fencing set up to identify the Park Board line. And we really did count
34 trees on the Minnehaha side of the fence that probably will come down.
But what was more astounding to us was that Earth First and other
environmental groups hadn't gone in and motivated those students (who
appeared to be lounging, basking and sunbathing in the sun)to fight the
administration of the school on this one. Many youth across America are
fighting for environmental causes and saving the planet. Seems like these
students might be "above" that. That to me is what is sad.
Could these tress have been saved?
