We who live and work in public housing are being confronted by a proposed $1 billion cut in HUD funding for the upcoming fiscal year 2002. The Bush administration proposes to eliminate the $300 million Drug Elimination Program (DEP) that finances our security guards, Project Lookout, and the Minneapolis Police Department 8-man team assigned permanently to MPHA that does drug busts, evictions, and other heavy-duty law enforcement. The administration also proposes to eliminate $700 million from HUD's Capital Fund Program that finances modernization funding - a cut of 25% from that line item. Pending the establishment of a regular Mineapolis Highrise Representative Council (MHRC) website, please bear with me and go to http://members.tripod.com/markusfredric for a detailed narrative and opportunity to convey your thoughts to Washington on this grave matter.
