The Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee will hold a special public
meeting tomorrow (Monday, May 7), to discuss possible service cuts that will
be needed if the Legislature approves the House proposal for significantly
less transit funding. The meeting will take place at 12:00 Noon in the Met
Council chambers at Mears Park Center, 230 East Fifth Street, St. Paul.

The House proposal will be particulalry problematic for Minneapolis, and will
severely curtail the Met Council's plan to double the transit system by 2020.
The House action comes at a time when transit ridership has increased 22%
over the last four years, and when ridership on Metro Transit is at its
highest level in 15 years.

One of our key social and environmental goals in planning for the region is
to lessen reliance on the automoblie to order to relieve congestion and
promote clean air. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
Your voice for transit is needed now more than ever!

Metropolitan Councilmember, District 6
