It was great to see all the interest in the Mpls list at the DFL
convention. As you know, E-Democracy is a strictly non-partisan
organization with participants from across the political spectrum.
We need your help to follow through with outreach to all sorts of
communities.

I'd really like a few people who will lead outreach efforts in local
communities of color and newer immigrant communities. While you
can't tell a lot about someone's background based on their e-mail
address, it is clear that there are many more community voices that
need to be heard on this agenda-setting forum.

Per my message below, drop us an e-mail to join our outreach efforts:

Building this community forum is a one person at a time recruitment
effort. If we want these discussions to actually lead to a better
Minneapolis, we need voices from the many "communities" to share their
ideas and experiences.

Here are two ways you can help:

1. Sign-up People in Person - We have new forms online that you can
download in Word or PDF to sign-up people on paper. Use these at various
public events or with your neighbors. Make sure you explain what this
forum is so they aren't surprised. Please type up completed forms within a
day or two of collecting e-mail addresses.

See left column for the forms:

2. Join our E-Democracy New Voices Committee - With volunteer interest and
support we would like to launch an organization-wide effort to provide
outreach to all sorts of communities in Minnesota. From immigrant
groups to farmers in Western Minnesota, we want to bring new voices into
our forums. As far as I can tell the best way to recruit in diverse
communities is to have people from those backgrounds directly
involved. What advice do you have? How can you help us?

To comment or join this proposed committee, drop us an e-mail:

One idea that Sheldon Mains (E-Democracy board member) and I discussed
over lunch was the possibility that some organization out there with
office space and Internet connectivity could host an Americorp volunteer
or two who would coordinate an aggressive volunteer-based outreach effort
and help provide training to neighborhoods on how to create neighborhood
level discusion lists. Anyone want to make this idea a
reality? E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
