Mpls-Issues tip: please delete as much of this message's text as possible if replying to the list. Thanks! ----------- Driving home today I have a lot of gripes. And amazingly none of them are directed at the average driver. Driving east on Franklin at 23rd Ave S (about 5 PM), I saw a bus signal that it was pulling into traffic. By state law, traffic MUST yield to the bus, however a police car did not. The police car was breaking the law. At the next intersection (22nd Ave) the bus pulled over to pick up passengers. I didn't not curb, which means that the end of the bus was impeding traffic, this is always a gripe of mine. I think the fact that no one yields to buses causes bus drivers to do this. The bus stopped so that it was loading passengers before (east of the bus shelter) instead of past it, which would have given it more than enough room to curb and not impede the flow of traffic past the stopped bus. Then I turn left on to Bloomington (southbound) from Franklin Ave. I noticed that police car #8322 (I had a bus between me and the other police car and I don't have the vision of a hawk) was stopped in what clearly would have been the crosswalk. Now the police officers may not have realized that they would have been stopped in the crosswalk because the city can't seem to keep these markings visible (if they even painted the intersection after last fall's construction). However, I assume that police officers are supposed to be aware of their surroundings and should have done a better job. Finally I get near home, a police car has pulled over a SUV on the southwest corner of 12th Ave S and Lake St, stopped on 12th Ave (across from the former location of Award Video). By the time I left my car another squad car had pulled up alongside (about 6 feet gap between) the first squad car. This effectively blocked traffic from turning off of Lake St on to southbound 12th Ave. There was more than enough room to pull closer to the first police car, in front of the stopped vehicle. I took a picture and anyone that wants a copy, I will send electronically after I get it developed. Basically I am unhappy with how people drive, especially our city and metro employees. I honestly believe that the police do good work, but they also need to lead by example by following the laws. In the last instance, I did not hear any yelling or commotion from the vehicle pulled over and that is with the driver put in handcuffs and taken out his vehicle. Does anyone else think that our law enforcement officers should lead by example?
