In my opinion, the people who generally correspond on these kinds of lists
are people who feel, more than most, (and I include myself here), that the
world is in need of their opinion. Also, there are few "middle-of the
roaders" that post - most posters are very liberal or conservative, and have
no tolerance for views contrary to their own. The personalities are
strong - and in some cases may need an outlet for positions that would be
impolitic to air at home or at work. Finally - a sense of anonymity permits
a level (or perhaps depth) of discourse that would not be tolerated face to
face. In my opinion!
