I just want to clarify: Ken's initial post wasn't JUST about public schools
versus private....it was directly aimed at the mayor's race. He wrote:
>>If you say you are for social justice, racial equality and
>>community how can you send your kids to an elite, non-religious,
>>predominantly white private school?
And
>>I believe leaders should lead by example. I cannot support a
>>candidate for Mayor or any other office who "talks the talk
>>but won't walk the walk".
I think Ken's opinion is legitimate. I do applaud members who took this in a
more general, less political direction. However, insiders have debated
R.T.'s political exposure on this issue ever since he announced. I think
Ken's post brought R.T.'s family decision out of the "insider's closet" in a
political way. My response, frankly, was to neutralize that politicization.
I just didn't want to play games about what we were really talking about:
mayoral politics.

Respectfully, I did no such thing. In fact, your point is exactly mine - we
don't know what Lisa would have done and we CAN'T know...furthermore we
SHOULDN'T know. But R.T. shouldn't suffer in comparison because he did have
to make that choice. Again, I was tempting to neutralize attempt at
political gain.
>Please don't merge these threads. Everyone was going fine expressing their
opinion about public vs. private. Don't interject politics at this point.
As I said, I think politics was the subtext from the start. It is noble that
list members made it bigger, but I felt the subtext should be explicit, and
I hope people understand my purpose in doing so.
Sincerely,
David Brauer
